In 1868, Frederick Schrader opened an undertaking firm to serve his neighbors in West St. Louis County. In 1910, Frederick's son, William Schrader, built a more suitable funeral home. That structure remains a part of the modern Schrader Funeral Home.
Our firm is still owned and managed by family members. Today, Ruth Schrader Arft and Harold "Skip" Schrader are fourth generation owners. Ruth's husband, Hank, a former St. Louis Browns baseball player, was involved for more than 50 years before his death in 2002. The fifth generation of the Schrader family is active in our firm, too. Steve Schrader, Peggy Arft-Goethe and her husband, Dennis Goethe are involved in the business on a daily basis
We are proud to be the St. Louis area's oldest family-owned funeral home, and the oldest business in Ballwin, Missouri.
Schrader has also received the National Funeral Directors Association Golden Eagle Award for the past four years.
