PRIVACY, AN IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION
At Schrader Funeral Home, Inc., we are especially sensitive to the privacy of the families we serve, and have served in the past. Families consider us custodians of private information -- a responsibility we take very seriously. We're also sensitive to those who wish to research their family's history.
With this in mind, we're willing to provide a copy of any published death notice, funeral notice, or obituary that our files may contain. Please remember that publication of a death notice is not required by law, and sometimes there is not a published notice. Usually, a death notice or obituary would be from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, or one of the local newspapers in St. Louis county. To request a copy of the death notice, please provide us with the full name of the deceased and the date of death (or year, if the exact date is unknown). The enclosure of a self-addressed, stamped envelope ensures a response.
Generally, a funeral notice would contain the names of survivors and their relationship to the deceased as well as funeral details and the place of burial or other disposition.
If there was no published notice of the death, we must assume that the family desired privacy for some reason. The passage of many years doesn't negate our desire to honor their wishes.
Other sources for genealogy data include several on-line websites. We suggest you begin with www.rootsweb.com, a genealogy website with links to the comprehensive Social Security Death Index and many other sites of help and interest. The internet search engine, www.google.com, can also prove helpful in searching for sites that mention the name you're looking for.
Locally, the St. Louis Genealogical Society (www.sltgs.org), 4 Sunnen Drive, Suite 140, P.O. Box 43010, St. Louis, MO 63143 is a valuable resource for information. They are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization.
In Missouri, a death certificate is not a public record. The fee for a copy of the death certificate is $13, which includes a five-year search. Additional copies are $10 each. If you are a relative or legal representative, you can request a copy of the death certificate by writing to:
Bureau of Vital Records 930 Wildwood PO Box 570 Jefferson City, MO 65102
We appreciate your understanding of our policy of privacy of our funeral records.
Sincerely, The Schrader Family and Staff
