Biography

Garwood, Mary Beth (nee Scott), of St. Louis, MO, passed away, Saturday, July 7, 2012.

Mary Beth Scott was born March 11, 1922, to Charles P. and Alma Kendall Scott at their home in St. Louis, Missouri. Mary Beth lived in southeast Missouri towns throughout her childhood but moved to St. Louis when she was twenty and lived here ever since.

Third Baptist Church became a very important place for her as she met her future spouse, Arthur (Art) Garwood, as well as many lifelong friends. She married Arthur Ross Garwood on January 29, 1949 at Third Baptist. They later had a son, David, and daughter, Marta who were both baptized at Third.

Mary Beth was involved in many facets of the church from being a deaconess to serving on several committees. She was active in the Women's Society where one of her favorite activities was serving on a panel that tested GA's who were passing their steps in the Girls' Auxiliary program. She was a member of the Partnership SS Class for many years. She and Art helped start the Third Baptist Camping Club and, along with many families from Third, camped all over Missouri and Illinois. She loved Jesus and was His hands and feet to others.

Professionally, Mary Beth worked as a chemist at Ralston Purina and later taught Science and Home Ec for many years at Nerinx High school. She also enjoyed volunteering at Missouri Baptist Hospital and did so with her husband Art for seventeen years.

She cherished her family and they cherished her. Mary Beth was a wonderful wife to Art, a loving and admired mother to David and Deborah Garwood and Marta and Ronn Ramey, a dear grandmother to Kristin and Les Londeen, Todd & Laura Ramey, Samantha & Nathan Folkemer, Michelle & Dan Derby, Lindsay Zolman, Joe & Zach Garwood, Lauren & Cory Kempter, and dear great-grandmother to Javan, Hayden, Ophelia, and Ricky. And she was a dear sister, aunt, and friend to many others.
