In Loving Memory of Andy Bald
Andrew "Andy" Bald, 48, passed away far too soon, leaving behind a lifetime of friendships, stories, laughter, and an example of what it means to be dependable. Born in Ballwin, Missouri, Andy called many places home throughout his life, eventually spending several years in Texas and Oklahoma working in the oil and gas industry. No matter where life took him, he remained a craftsman at heart. He spent most of his career as a painter, taper, and drywaller, but anyone who knew Andy knew there wasn't much he couldn't build, fix, or figure out with his own two hands.
If you met Andy for the first time, you may have thought he was quiet and reserved, content to keep to himself. But those fortunate enough to earn his friendship discovered a man with an enormous heart, a dry sense of humor, and enough stories to last well into the night. Once you were in Andy's circle, you had a friend for life.
Dependable hardly begins to describe him. Whether it was a friend, coworker, business partner, or family member, Andy was the person who answered the phone, dropped what he was doing, and showed up. More than once, he came through to save someone's day-or, as many would affectionately say, "save your ass." His work ethic, integrity, and willingness to help others earned him the respect of everyone who had the privilege of working beside him. He became a mentor to many in the trades, teaching not only the skills of the job but the pride that comes with doing things the right way.
Outside of work, Andy found joy on the river. Whether he was on his boat or gathered around with friends after a long day, he had a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. His beloved dog, Sondra, was his faithful companion through many of his younger years and held a special place in his heart.
Andy never married and never had children of his own, but love was never absent from his life. He shared many meaningful relationships and always hoped to find his soulmate. His greatest pride, however, may have been being "Uncle Andy." He adored his nieces, Isabelle and Kensley, and they loved him right back. Watching them grow brought him endless joy.
The bond Andy shared with his sister, Wendy, was unlike any other. Life taught them early to lean on one another, and they never stopped. Friends often joked that Wendy was less a sister and more his "sister wife"-a joke that perfectly captured just how inseparable they were and how fiercely they loved and supported each other.
Friends also loved to tease that Andy was "the richest broke guy around." He worked incredibly hard, saved carefully, and thought twice before spending a dollar. Though he dedicated much of his life helping others build their dreams, he carried an entrepreneurial spirit of his own and quietly dreamed of building something for himself one day.
Andy somehow managed to be both a lone wolf and an indispensable part of every pack he joined. He never sought the spotlight, yet his absence leaves an unmistakable void. His sudden passing has deeply impacted friends and family from every chapter of his life, a testament to just how many people were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Andy is survived by his mother, Donna Bald; his father, David Bald; his sister, Wendy Knirr; his beloved nieces, Isabelle and Kensley Knirr; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, lifelong friends, and coworkers who will forever cherish his memory.
One of Andy's favorite bands was Alice in Chains, and Nutshell was a song that always resonated with him. Perhaps the lyric that best reflects the way those who loved him feel today is, "And yet I fight... and yet I fight." Those left behind will continue that fight by carrying forward the lessons Andy taught through his actions: work hard, keep your word, help people without being asked, and never leave a friend stranded.
The buildings Andy helped create will stand for years to come, but his greatest legacy will always be the lives he touched. He will be remembered as a hardworking craftsman, a trusted mentor, an unforgettable storyteller, the uncle every child deserves, the brother everyone wishes they had, and the dependable friend who never hesitated to show up when he was needed most.
He leaves this world far too soon, but anyone lucky enough to know Andy knows that his story doesn't end here. It lives on every time someone lends a hand without expecting anything in return, every sunset on the river, every honest day's work, and every story that begins with, "You remember what Andy did?"
