Werner, Clark "Jack", passed away, Friday, October 23, 2026 at the age of 85.
Loving husband of 35 years of Jane Werner (nee Von Gruben); dear father of Sheryll (the late Charlie) Kramer; Carol Werner and Alison (Aaron) Demetrulias; grandfather of Brad Kramer, Kyle (Christine) Kramer, Christopher (Ianna) Werner, Kayla (Jodi) Werner, Kai Demetrulias, Eli Demetrulias and Nikos Demetrulias; great-grandfather of Myla Sanders, Asher Kramer, Eden Thomas, and Peyton Werner; brother of JoAnn (the late Bob) Cory;
Jack was born in St Louis, Missouri to Clark and Virginia Werner, on Friday, June 13th, 1941. He grew up in Overland Missouri, surrounded by a huge family with likely hundreds of cousins, dozens of aunts and uncles and four sets of grandparents. He joined the Marines in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1959 after breaking both legs in a training accident. Jack’s first love was racing which he enjoyed his entire life. In the early years, you would find him circling the Charlie Bowl or flipping down the front stretch at Paducah. Be it stock cars, late models, go carts, or drag cars, he did it all. He could build a 350 Chevy motor with his eyes closed. He built several race cars from the ground up, either for himself or others. He was a mentor and father-figure to many who loved him. He enjoyed helping others, especially young people, with their race cars, answering questions and showing how or doing just about anything on a race car. Jack met and married the love of his life, Jane, on June 23, 1991, and they enjoyed 35 years together. Jack was a 50 plus year member of IUOE Local 513, where he worked on and operated heavy equipment until he retired in 2000. His body was worn out due to the many racing accidents and harsh treatment he gave it. Oh, I just broke my leg. Let me get the duct tape. My finger is almost severed, where’s the scissors and glue. True stories. Retirement consisted of working in the garage, still mentoring, and daily happy hour. Gathered in the garage, he and his friends and neighbors enjoyed bench-racing or general bickering and conversation along with a couple of beers, although his drink of choice was the strongest black coffee on the planet. Of his greatest accomplishments are his three girls, Sherry, Carol and Alison, along with his wife, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; all whom he loved dearly. Even though he was suffering greatly, he was absolutely determined to meet his newest grandson, Nikos, and lived another month after he was born. We enjoyed a wonderful, kind and good man for 85 years. We will miss him terribly but his suffering has ended and he is at peace. God rest his soul.
