Debbie
Nieman
Apr 13, 1954 — Apr 13, 2026
Wildwood
Debbie Nieman, 72, of Wildwood, Missouri, passed away on April 13, 2026. Bringing her life to a beautiful close on the very same day it began. Debbie's journey came full circle on her 72nd birthday, leaving behind a legacy as complete and special as the date itself.
Born on April 13, 1954, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, to Leonard and Lynette Drefahl, Debbie carried her small-town roots with her throughout her life. She graduated from Quincy University, where she met the love of her life, Ken Nieman, beginning a lifelong partnership that spanned 49 years of marriage.
Debbie was a devoted wife, mother, and beloved Grandma and "Memaw," whose life was defined by her deep love for family and her passion for teaching. She dedicated more than 30 years to education, including 25 years teaching first grade at Holy Infant, a Catholic school that reflected the faith so important to her. Known for being both structured and caring, Debbie was often remembered by her students as strict but always smiling-a combination that helped shape and guide countless young lives. She had a special gift for making others feel valued and encouraged, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Ken Nieman; her children, Eric Nieman (Jody), Brett Nieman (Sara), and Krista Elliott (Scott); her siblings, Diane Grotz and Sandy Kelly/Greathead; and her cherished grandchildren, Haleigh, Cole, Caleb, Guiliana, Chase, and Sydney, who brought her endless pride and joy. Being Grandma and "Memaw" was one of her greatest joys, and she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren.
In her free time, Debbie enjoyed reading and relaxing at home. In recent years, she especially loved traveling with Ken and embracing life's simple pleasures-including developing a fondness for a good glass of bourbon. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and warmth-often summed up in her favorite saying, "Whatever," a lighthearted reflection of her easygoing nature and sense of humor.
Her legacy lives on through the many lives she shaped as a teacher and the deep love she instilled in her family. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
