Donald "Don"
Eugene Coon
Sep 22, 1945 — Apr 30, 2026
Wildwood
Coon, Donald "Don" Eugene, born on September 22, 1945 to Joseph Marvin Coon and Virginia Irene Coon (Marler) in an Army base hospital in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Don's father served in the Army Corps of Engineers for the Manhattan project in Oak Ridge during WWII. They called Don their "glow in the dark baby". Don died on April 30th, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
After the war, Don and his parents moved back to Springfield, Missouri where he enjoyed growing up being in Boy Scouts, playing sports, getting hooked on muscle cars, going to drag races, and watching one of his favorite programs "The Rifleman" which continued from childhood to senior years. He especially enjoyed teasing his "punko" kid sister who was 8 years younger. He attended Parkview High School and Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State University) in Springfield. There he met the love of his life Billie Boucher. When Don met Billie, he knew she was the one, but he was also impressed with the way Billie's Mom Mary could "whip them up" some fried chicken for lunch, even when they would show up unannounced.
After graduating, Don and Billie moved to St. Louis, Missouri to begin careers in teaching. Donald excelled at helping his students get excited about mathematics, even though he made them groan while telling them his "knee slapper" jokes. He also served as football coach for Selvidge Middle School and one of his fondest memories was being carried off the field on the shoulders of his team after winning a championship game.
After retirement, Don and Billie enjoyed many trips, St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams games and get togethers with family and friends. He particularly enjoyed going on fishing trips and pontoon boat rides with his family. Don and Billie recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. He always said she was a Type A personality and he was a type B. Turns out, it was a perfect match.
Don always had a way of teasing and joking with everyone he met that always left them with a smile. You can bet that most everyone that knew Don has a story about something he said or did that made their life more enjoyable. We will all miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife Billie Coon (Boucher), sister Cathy Mulford (Coon) and her husband Bob, sister-in-law Mary Fall (Boucher) and her husband John, nephews Steve Fall and his wife Cindy, Mike Fall and his wife Alex as well as their families. He is also survived by very special family friends Terri Tauser, Maggie Self and Her husband Johnathan, Jack Tauser and Lucky Tauser. Don is also survived by so many friends who made his life fun, exciting and memorable.
