Doriene Frances
Steiniger (Née Roth)
Sep 3, 1942 — Feb 22, 2026
Ellisville
Doriene Frances Steiniger, 83, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on February 22, 2026.
Beloved wife of Thomas "Tom" Steiniger for nearly 62 beautiful years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in faith, devotion, laughter, and unwavering love.
Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Sandy (Steve) Hughes, Susan (Tim) May, John (Amy) Steiniger, and Katie (Michael) Collins.
Treasured grandmother of Ashley (Liam) Carter, Caroline Hughes (Collin Luft), Cooper (Kyndall) May, Claire Hughes (Michael Rupp), Grace Hughes, Chloe Steiniger, Ava Steiniger, and Maddie Collins.
Precious great-grandmother of Mark and Mary Frances Carter.
In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she is survived by her beloved twin sister, Dorothy Happe. She was a dear sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend - and truly, anyone she met quickly became one.
Doriene was born on September 3, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Louis and Rose Roth. She grew up on a farm in Bellefontaine Neighbors, where she learned the skills that would define so much of her life - home cooking, canning, gardening, sewing, and quilting - gifts passed down from her mother and aunts. Those simple, faithful lessons became the foundation of the warm and welcoming home she would later create for her own family.
Doriene loved a full house. She delighted in cooking for a crowd, showing visiting family and friends the beauty of the places she called home, and gathering everyone together - especially during summers at the beach. On the Fourth of July, fireworks were best enjoyed with a lap full of grandchildren. Christmas was an event, not a day. And no meal was complete without a cup of coffee shared with Tom afterward.
She was an extraordinarily talented quilter and generously volunteered her time and artistry with the women of her parish to create quilts for those in need. Her hands were rarely idle, and her heart was always open. Over six decades, she and Tom were active members of several Catholic parishes in both St. Louis and New Hampshire, quietly serving wherever they were planted.
Doriene never missed what mattered. Games, tournaments, dance recitals, graduations, weddings - if someone she loved was there, she was there. Whether she lived across the country or just minutes away, her children and grandchildren felt her constant presence, steady encouragement, and unfailing prayers.
Her life was not loud, but it was luminous. Rooted in faith. Rich in family. Overflowing with love.
She leaves behind a legacy woven - like her quilts - with patience, beauty, and care. And the warmth she stitched into the lives of those around her will endure for generations.
