Edwin D.
Kuhr
Jun 20, 1939 — Aug 25, 2026
Chesterfield
Kuhr, Edwin D., a devoted husband, accomplished electrical engineer, and beloved brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026.
Born in Elmhurst, Illinois, to the late Julius and Katherine Kuhr, Edwin's early life was rooted in faith, family, and a strong work ethic. He received his foundational education at Immanuel Lutheran School, Elmhurst, IL and York High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Illinois, where he earned his bachelor's degree.
Edwin dedicated his career to telecommunications, working as an electrical engineer for Western Electric/Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies until his retirement. A gifted mind in a rapidly evolving field, he specialized in pioneering Electronic Switching Systems that helped modernize modern communication.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Western Electric held a deeply personal significance: it was where Edwin met the love of his life, the late Anna Marie Rehm. The pair shared a deep connection, marrying when Edwin was 42. Together, they built a life anchored in mutual devotion and shared faith as active parishioners at Ascension Catholic Church. Though Edwin now rejoices in being reunited with his bride, Anna Marie, his legacy of warmth and steady kindness remains with all who knew him.
Edwin is survived by his loving siblings, Shirley (Charles) Carlson and Richard (Martha) Kuhr; along with a vast circle of extended family, including many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
A life marked by intellect, quiet faith, and enduring love, Edwin will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
