Emma Maria
Schleiss
Dec 2, 1948 — Apr 21, 2026
Ballwin
Schleiss, Emma Maria, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. She was the loving mother of her late son, Erik Weiss, and the beloved daughter of the late Jacob and Theresia Schleiss. Emma was the devoted partner of Randy Strong and the cherished sister of Jakob (Sandra) Schleiss and Helen (Michael) Winter. She will be fondly remembered as a loving aunt, cousin, and dear friend to many.
Emma Schleiss was born in Austria on Dec. 2nd, 1948. As a young child her family emigrated to Chicago. After graduating from college, she established her permanent residency in St. Louis, Missouri, where she worked as an educator. Here she raised her only son Erik Weiss. At age 26, after serving in the peace corps Erik succumbed to a rare cancer called esthesioneuroblastoma. Trying to accept the death of her child was a constant struggle. Emma was a mover and a shaker with a love for adventure, travel, reading, dancing, for people, for a new experience and for all the wonderful things life had to offer. 13 years ago, she was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. Throughout her illness she continued to live the best life possible until she couldn't.
Emma leaves us with a farewell message to live each day with purpose. Life is way too short, so don't wait for all the stars to align, don't miss an opportunity, don't live with regrets, treasure your friends and family, keep God in your life and most importantly don't forget to dance.
Emma, you will be sorely missed. Know that you are loved.
