Obituary

Gary William Shamel, went to be with Jesus, Tuesday, April 21, 2026.  He was born in Flint, Michigan to the late William Clarence and Evelyn Ruth (nee Oliver) Shamel on November 16, 1951.

Gary was the beloved husband of Shirley Shamel (nee Butterbaugh).  Loving father of Lisa Annette (Eric) Scott and the late Brian Michael Shamel.  Proud grandfather of Christian Brian Scott and Caytlin Elisabeth Scott.  Dearest brother of Linda (Fred) Siktberg; Dear brother-in-law of James D. Butterbaugh, John M. (Carolyn) Butterbaugh, Robert D. (Carmen) Butterbaugh, and Linda J. Butterbaugh.  Dear uncle, cousin and friend of many.

From an early age, Gary showed a gift for music, playing the trumpet and receiving honors for his talent. More importantly, he came to know Christ at a young age, building a faith that would guide and sustain him throughout his life.

Gary pursued higher education with dedication, earning a master's degree in Business Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University. He went on to build a successful career as a sales manager in the metal stamping industry, where he was known for his attention to detail and Christian work ethic.

A defining moment in his life came on July 19, 1969, when he met Shirley, the love of his life, at a Bible Memory Association Camp in Shelby, Michigan. As they worked side by side washing dishes, and taking care of the horses, God brought them together, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in faith and love. They were married on May 27, 1972, at Woodville Grace Brethren Church in Mansfield, Ohio. Shortly thereafter Gary and Shirley were blessed with two children, Lisa and Brian.

As a father, he was devoted, loving, and a constant source of support, guidance, and encouragement. His family was his greatest joy, and he poured his life into caring for them.

Gary was a faithful member of Ellisville Baptist Church, later known as the Fellowship of Wildwood, where he lived out his faith in service and fellowship.

Those who knew Gary will remember his kindness, warm smile, and unwavering faith. Gary was a wonderful and kind Christian, a blessing to family and friends, and a man deeply committed to being a loving husband and father until the very end.

Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
