Obituary

George F. Beatty, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after entering hospice care on May 30.

George was the devoted husband of Carolyn for nearly 53 years. He was the loving father of Ryan Scott Lovell (Jessica) of O'Fallon, Missouri, and Lori Ann Pierle (Joseph) of Jefferson City, Missouri. Affectionately known as the "Best Papa Ever," he was the proud grandfather of Andrew Joseph Pierle, Sarah Anne Pierle (Dr. Glenn Teubner), Benjamin Edward Pierle (Angelina), Kyle Scott Lovell, and Connor Maxwell Lovell. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Hinnenkamp and Terrina Beatty, and was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Beatty. George was also a devoted brother-in-law and cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Born on September 7, 1937, in Salina, Kansas, George was the son of George Beatty, Sr. and Estelle M. Beatty (née Hinnenkamp). He entered the United States Army in 1957 and served as a combat medic until 1968. After his military service, he attended nursing school and later completed the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Barnes Hospital. He then practiced at City Hospital and Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis before joining Western Anesthesia at St. John's Mercy on Ballas Road, where he worked for 37 years. Along the way, he formed lifelong friendships that became a second family. George loved providing anesthesia care and continued doing what he loved until retiring in 2011 at age 74. In 1985, he joined the Army Reserves, he was called to serve during the Gulf War and later retired with the rank of Captain.

George and Carolyn loved to see the world and traveled extensively with friends to Russia, China, numerous locations in Europe and the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. George enjoyed woodworking, biking, canoe trips, and traveling in his Winnebago across nearly every state from California to Maine. Some of George's greatest joys were teaching each of his grandchildren to snow ski and spending time with his family at the lake house. He also volunteered at Love the Lou in north St. Louis, where he spent time with underserved children from the community, teaching life lessons and woodworking. George was a loyal friend to many and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone-especially his friends at the YMCA.

George will be remembered for his servant's heart, deep love for family, unwavering kindness, and the countless lives he touched through his military and healthcare careers.
