Herbert Frederick
Eggerding Jr.
Jul 23, 1937 — Jun 3, 2026
Chesterfield
Herbert Frederick Eggerding Jr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
He was the beloved husband of the late Jackie Eggerding (née Thias); loving father of Kristin (Dave) Anderson and Dean (Erica) Eggerding; proud Papa of Peyton, Parker, and Devon Anderson, and Cole, Chloe, and Max Eggerding; and cherished great-grandfather of Nora. He was the dear brother of Jeanne Mugge and Katherine (Thomas) Drescher, and a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Milly Eggerding; his sister, Myrna (Roger) Scott; and his beloved wife, Jackie.
Born and raised in South St. Louis, Herb developed a strong work ethic at an early age, working as a newspaper carrier, and usher and ticket-taker for the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals in his youth. He attended Emmaus Grade School and graduated from Lutheran High School. He continued his education at Valparaiso University and the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and where he was later honored as a distinguished alumni and guest professor.
After being drafted into the United States Air Force, Herb proudly served his country and was stationed in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. Following his military service, he began a successful career in accounting, working for Price Waterhouse before joining Petrolite Corporation, where he ultimately served as Chief Financial Officer and later retired.
Herb met the love of his life, Jackie, while they were both living at the Georgetown Apartments. Their courtship was certain, and they were married on December 28, 1968, beginning a loving partnership that lasted for decades.
Throughout his life, Herb enjoyed many activities and friendships. He played softball and cork ball, spent time at the familiar watering holes of South St. Louis, enjoyed snow skiing with the St. Louis Ski Club, and enjoyed playing golf and socializing with his life-long friends from school.
Deeply grateful for the blessings he received throughout his life, Herb dedicated himself to serving others. He held leadership and board positions with several organizations, including Thrivent Lutheran, Lutheran Senior Services, and the Lutheran Foundation. He also served as President of the Missouri Athletic Club, where he was honored to contribute to an institution he greatly valued.
Above all else, Herb was a committed and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He offered guidance, wisdom, encouragement, and unwavering support to his family throughout his life. His integrity, generosity, faith, and devotion to those he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.
Herb leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, friendship, and love that will continue to inspire his family and friends for generations to come.
