Hugh William
Rogan
Sep 22, 1942 — Dec 8, 2025
Ellisville
Rogan, Hugh William, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., died peacefully on Monday, December 8th, 2025, surrounded by family at American House in Wildwood, Mo. He was 83 years old.
Hughie, as he was affectionately known, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on September 22nd, 1942 to Hugh and Brigid (nee Sullivan) Rogan, the third of their four children. He graduated high school from Power Memorial Academy in New York City, served in the US Army Reserves, and graduated from St. Francis College with a degree in economics. After a chance meeting at a Knights of Columbus dance, Hugh married the love of his life, Frances Beirne, on November 27, 1965 at Holy Cross in Flatbush, N.Y. Hugh and Fran raised their five sons in New York for many years before relocating to St. Louis, Mo., where they continued to raise their family, eventually including 19 grandchildren.
Hugh worked at Citi for 35 years and established a successful career in banking technology. Upon retirement, Hugh started a consulting company in IT recruitment. Hugh prioritized relationships, spending countless hours socializing with family and friends. Hugh and Fran welcomed children, grandchildren, and friends to their home, and holidays were always an open door invitation. After a massive stroke in 2018 rendered him unable to walk or speak, Hugh still found ways to connect with others, making new friends and facing his health challenges with dignity, grace, and a strength that was inspiring to all who knew him. Hugh was a first generation American and proud Irishman, an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan, was always up for a poker game, and above all else enjoyed spending time with his cherished family, especially his beloved wife, Fran, and usually surrounded by grandchildren. With an outgoing personality and a gift for storytelling, Hugh never met a stranger and captivated many a room, sharing tales and stories into the wee hours.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Fran, their children, Hugh Rogan of Wildwood, Mo., Patrick (Carren) Rogan of Wildwood, Mo., Michael (Jeanne) Rogan of Savannah, Ga., Sean (Courtney) Rogan of Wildwood, Mo., and Kevin (Kristen) Rogan of Wildwood, Mo., their 19 grandchildren, Riley (Kevin) Garrone, Marie Rogan, Jack Rogan, Frances Michaela Rogan, Charlie Rogan, Mollie (Kyle) Watkins, Caitlin Rogan, Maggie Rogan, Quinn Rogan, Patrick (P.J.) Rogan, Averi Rogan, William Rogan, Timothy Rogan, Carrie Rogan, Jameson Rogan, Callen Rogan, Brynn Rogan, Corinne Rogan, and Harrison (Hayes) Rogan, great grandchildren Graham Garrone and Margot Garrone, his brother James (Kay) Rogan and his sister Eileen Maiello, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Kay Battaglia, niece Colleen Battaglia, and nephew Joseph Maiello.
Hugh (Poppy, Bundy) will be remembered for his love for his family, social nature, gift of gab, and a life well lived surrounded by family and laughter.
