James Carl "Jim" Miller

James Carl "Jim" Miller, 80, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 15, 2026. He was born on March 13, 1946, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jack and Evelyn Miller.

Jim graduated magna cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University and married his high school sweetheart, Jane. Together they raised two daughters. He retired after more than 30 years as an Army auditor with the Department of Defense.

He had a sharp, quick, and wonderfully sarcastic sense of humor that his family loved. He never forgot a birthday and always made birthdays and Christmas special for the people he loved.

Music was one of his great loves. A devoted Elvis fan, he got to see the King perform live, and he traveled to Mississippi to hear the blues. He spent countless hours making music tapes to share and enjoy.

He loved the water and made an annual canoe trip for as long as he was able. In his later years, he could most often be found on the front porch of the family's country property, enjoying a good cigar with his beloved cat close by.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jacqueline Miller. He is survived by his wife, Jane Miller; his daughters, Kerri Miller and Katherine Hickey (Mark George); and his grandchildren, Etta, Elaina, Charlie, Jenny, and Amber.

Services: A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to tenthlifecats.org, where his beloved cat, Dougie, was adopted.

Jim will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

As a service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
