Rieman, Janet Joella "Jan" (nee DuBois), passed away, Sunday, September 20, 2026. Beloved wife of Warren E. Rieman. Dear mother of Philip (Deirdre) Rieman and Janet Lynne (Scott) Vargo. Loving grandmother of Emily Grace Vargo. Sister of James DuBois.
Jan was born on October 12, 1932 in Dalton Arkansas, to her parents Elmer and Viola DuBois. She was the 12th born of 15 siblings. Preceded in death by all except her younger brother James DuBois, who resides in Little Rock, Arkansas. She grew up on a farm in rural Arkansas and shared fond memories of her childhood, including playing in woods and creeks with her many siblings, and singing and playing guitar for her community with her sister Helen. This love of music and nature followed her through life.
After high school she attended Southern Baptist College in Pocahontas, Arkansas where she gained an associate's degree. Shortly after college, her and her sister Helen moved to St. Louis, where she met her husband Warren E. Rieman, and they started their family.
Jan was a true matriarch for her family, a loyal wife and loving mother. Shortly before her passing, her and Warren celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Together they had two wonderful children: their son Philip E. Rieman and his wife Deirdre (Dee) Rieman, and their daughter Janet Lynne Vargo and her husband Scott Vargo. She also survived by her granddaughter Emily Grace Vargo.
Jan loved and appreciated all the beautiful things in life. She could often be found in her big, beautiful garden, where she spent every evening pruning and watering her flowers. She also took much pride in her magazine-worthy home, which was always beautifully decorated. She was a renowned host who loved entertaining guests and throwing holiday parties. Jan also was very selfless and cared deeply about her community, particularly those who were less fortunate. She served on the East Central College Scholarship Foundation Board and was Chair of the Silent Auction. She also helped open a food pantry in Union, MO.
Janet Joella was a light in every room. She was a kind, genuine and selfless woman who cared deeply about those she loved, and even those she didn’t know. Anyone who knew her knew what a joy she was and how gentle her soul was. To know her even at all, was to love her.
Jan occasionally spoke about her passing and how she didn’t want those she left behind to be too sad, because she wouldn’t be. She would be joyous, in eternal paradise with her Heavenly Father. We can take comfort in knowing that she is at peace.
