Jason Robert Phillips

Jason Robert Phillips passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Jason was born in Newport News, Virginia, and grew up in Chesterfield, Missouri. He graduated from DeSmet High School in 1990 and Notre Dame University in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Following college, Jason proudly served his country as a Naval Officer. Through ROTC at Notre Dame, he was commissioned as an officer in 1994. He completed the Navy’s Nuclear Power School and served for seven years in the Nuclear Power Submarine Service, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. His dedication to his country and his service were an important part of who he was.

Above all, Jason was a loving and generous father. He is survived by his mother, Janice Phillips; and his three wonderful daughters, Samantha Phillips, Megan (Steven) Hawrylynko, and Taylor Phillips, whom he raised with Lei Phillips.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jonathan Phillips and James (Bree) Phillips; his sister, Jennifer (Mark) Brende; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives he touched.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Phillips, and his sister-in-law, Catherine Phillips.

Jason was an avid NASCAR and Notre Dame football fan, a collector of coins and stamps, and a true car lover. He will be remembered for his generous and caring heart, his dry sense of humor, and, perhaps most memorably, his endless supply of terrible dad jokes.

Jason will be deeply missed by his daughters, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love, humor, generosity, and memory will remain with them always.
