Maurer, John E. "Jack", at the age of 96 passed away, Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Friendship Village Care Center in Chesterfield, Missouri. While mentally alert, almost to the end, his body was worn out after surgery on July 20.
Jack was born on April 27, 1930 in St. Louis to George Maurer and Susan Catherine Edelmann (both now deceased). He married Margaret Ellen Riley on December 28, 1957, his wife of 67 years who passed on April 23, 2020.
Jack graduated from Rolla School of Mines with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. During the Korean War he worked as a civilian for the US Army. He then worked for Monsanto as a Chemical Engineer, during which time he got his law degree from St. Louis University night school and became a Patent Attorney for Monsanto. In that capacity, he often traveled to Japan and several European countries, ending his long career at Monsanto as General Patent Council for Europe, living in Brussels, Belgium until he retired in 1985. As an engineer and lawyer, Jack was known for his meticulous ways as well as a keen sense of humor. He continued to work as an attorney until 1996.
Jack and Ellen moved often, living much of their lives together in Webster groves, MO. But they also lived in Kirkwood, Creve Coeur, Chesterfield, Houston, TX and Naples, FL. In 1976 they built a "cottage" on Crystal Lake, MI where Ellen spent every summer, Jack visiting there as often as he could. Visiting Crystal Lake became a family tradition every summer.
Jack is survived by his daughter Nancy (Jerry) Soke and sons Rob Maurer (companion Kris) and Greg (Stacie) Maurer. Jack is grandfather to Carolyn (Will) Skowyra, Ellen Magne, Lisa (Zach) Soke, Alli (Dan) Snyder and Laura (Daniel) Skoglund, his grandsons Jack (Becca) Maurer and Sam Maurer; great granddaughters Sophia, Izzy and Ava Skowyra, Daphne Fister and Elle and Hayes Snyder; and great grandsons Al and Ari Fister and Austin Magne.
