John "Jay" Davis Braden

John Davis Braden (Jay) passed away on October 26, 2026 after a year of declining health.

Jay was born to Oscar and Alberta Braden on May 31, 1947 in Scott City, Missouri. He grew up in Scott City and then attended Southeast Missouri State University, earning a degree in Earth Sciences. He served four years in the Air Force specializing in photo intelligence. Upon his discharge, he moved to St. Louis and worked in various industries as an account manager and customer service representative.

Jay and Sandy met in 1988 at Manchester United Methodist Church and it was love at first sight. They were married in June 1989 and he “adopted” Jennifer as his own daughter. Jay loved taking care of their home, doing yard work, barbecuing and spending time with Sandy.

Jay was a kind, loving, and caring man. He had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed studying astronomy and loved the Beatles music. He was a devoted husband and father, but his favorite title was Gampy! Oh, how he loved his Lucy K. and Dryce!! Jay also was a devoted friend to many.

For 30 years, Jay was an active and dedicated friend of Bill W and Dr. Bob. The fellowship of the men of Group 248 sustained him. Every morning began with phone calls to his buddies to support one another.

Jay is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, his daughter, Jennifer, his son-in-law Brad Byrne, granddaughter Lucy K., grandson Dryce, his brother Richard (the late Sherry), and his sister Lisa Wolters (Bill). He was a devoted brother, brother-in-law, and uncle.
