John William
Steurer
Aug 5, 1937 — Jan 18, 2026
Valley Park
Our role model and hero, John William Steurer, 88, passed away peacefully on January 18th, 2026, in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri.
John attended CBC High School, earned bachelor's and master's degrees in aeronautical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and pursued doctoral studies at the University of Arizona. He went on to spend four decades with Boeing (formerly McDonnell Douglas Corporation), building a career around the work he loved.
Outside of work, John was a devoted parishioner for over 50 years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manchester, where he sent five children to school, coached soccer and served as Athletic Director. A diehard fan of the Fighting Irish and Cardinals, he fervently provided play-by-play analyses and led his teams to countless championships, all from the strategic comfort of his recliner. Off the field, he cherished his mostly bass-less bass fishing trips with his buddies. And he loved every minute spent at the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends.
His greatest joy in life was being a grandpa, enjoying every moment of good-natured teasing, academic advising and boisterous commentating from the sidelines at sporting events. Amongst family, he often shared two pieces of wisdom: "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all," and "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." These words reflect his kindness, strength, and the way he lived his life.
John is lovingly remembered by his children: John B. Steurer (Maureen), Denise Zboralske (Jack), Jennifer Follestad, Greg Steurer, and Amy Park (Matthew); twelve grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his sisters Janice Scullin (Bob) and Jeannine Vannoy (Mike); brothers Joseph Steurer (Debbie) and Jim Steurer (Toni); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Janice A. Steurer; his father, John F. Steurer; and his mother, Mildred Steurer.
The family would like to thank the amazing teams at Cape Albeon Memory Care Facility and St. Croix Hospice for the extraordinary care they provided to John over the past year.
Services: A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of John William Steurer , or mailed to P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
As a service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, friends may sign the family's on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
