John Martin
Wamhoff
Dec 22, 1936 — Sep 12, 2026
Chesterfield
John Martin Wamhoff, age 89, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of September 12th, 2026. Fortified with the Sacraments after a brief illness at Mercy Hospital, he returned to the Lord at the Sunrise of Chesterfield, surrounded by friends and family. He was the late husband of Carol Ann (Kaufmann) Wamhoff, a dedicated and loving wife. They shared more than sixty years together.
John was born on December 22nd, 1936, in St. Louis to Sylvester Henry Wamhoff and Agnes Elizabeth (Ruether) Wamhoff. He graduated from DeAndres High School and, following high school, served as a radar equipment foreman for the Army at Fort Meade, MD. He married on February 6th, 1960, at St. Engelbert Catholic Church (now St. Peter Claver). He obtained an associate's degree in applied science at Florissant Valley and began his working years at Rexall. His career was centered around material control for McDonnell Douglas & Boeing until retirement. Wherever he worked he was a hardworking and dedicated employee.
John loved to socialize, it is said that he never met a stranger. He treated everyone like an old friend. John was also an avid traveler, taking trips all over the world with his wife and numerous friends. He particularly enjoyed taking cruises and train trips. Being the St. Louis Cardinals superfan he was, John attended many games over the years and even made trips to see their spring training. He was a devoted member of Saint Alban Roe Catholic Church.
John is survived by his three children; John (Julie) Wamhoff, Jennifer (Matthew) Maguire, and James (Jody) Wamhoff; nine grandchildren; Daniel Wamhoff, Emily (William) Covington, Rachel Maguire, Rebecca (Kam Singh) Maguire, Jared Wamhoff, Clayton Wamhoff, Elizabeth Maguire, Aidan Wamhoff, and Nathan Maguire; siblings; Betty Lickenbrock, Mary Ann "Mimi" (Dean Wooten) Wamhoff, and sister-in-law Marilyn Wamhoff; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Carol; his parents; siblings; Sylvester "Bud" Wamhoff, Robert (Donna) Wamhoff, Helene (Jack) Kruse, and brother-in-law Eugene Lickenbrock; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. We pray he is reunited in heaven with his many friends and family.
