Obituary

Smith, Joshua D., passed away, Thursday, June 4, 2026.  Beloved husband of Joanna N. Smith (nee Owens); loving father of Calvin Smith; son of the late Sheila Smith (nee McCoy); son-in-law of Albert and Julie Owens; dear brother of Salome Sallet (Charles); nephew of Juanita (Leo)January, the late Robert McCoy, Hampton McCoy, Debbie McCoy; grandson of the late Ernestine McCoy;  brother-in-law of Joseph (Mackenzie) Owens; uncle of Shania Hilton, Jeremiah Hilton, Rosalie Owens and Penelope Owens; our dear nephew, cousin and friend.

Josh Smith passed away leaving behind his son, his wife, family and community who loved him deeply.

Josh was many things-a husband, father, son, brother, friend, and coworker-but the role he cherished most was being Calvin's dad. He was incredibly proud of his son and never missed an opportunity to talk about him, celebrate his accomplishments, or share a story that made him smile. Watching Calvin grow brought him immeasurable joy, and the love he had for his son was evident to everyone who knew him.

Josh shared a special bond with his wife, who loved spoiling and pampering him every chance she got. Their relationship was built on love, laughter, loyalty, and a deep appreciation for one another. He loved stopping by her work just to give the girls a hard time, crack a joke, and make everyone laugh. He also loved the little comforts in life, especially having his back scratched, something that never failed to make him happy.

A dedicated fitness enthusiast, Josh spent countless hours at LifeTime, always pushing himself to be better. He enjoyed juicing fresh fruits, taking care of his health, and sharing his passion for wellness with others. He was actively pursuing a career with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a goal he worked hard toward and one that reflected his desire to serve and protect others.

Josh valued his crew at work and considered many of them family. He loved his family fiercely and was always happiest when surrounded by the people he cared about most. At home, he took great pride in having the best lawn in the neighborhood and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-quiet evenings, his favorite shows, and well-earned downtime.

Josh lived with determination, humor, and heart. He worked hard, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His absence leaves an unimaginable void, but his love, laughter, and memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched.

As we wish we had more time, we are grateful for every moment we shared with him. We take comfort in knowing that the love he poured into his family, especially Calvin, will continue to shine through for years to come. Calvin has so many of Josh's same attributes, mannerisms, and qualities that pieces of him will live on every day. As his wife, I know I will forever find comfort in doing all the little things for Calvin that I did for Josh, carrying forward the same love, care, and devotion that meant so much to both of them.

Some things I can never forget-

-His big cackle laugh

-His love for all sports and giving me a menu to make for big sporting events.. even for just the two of us

-His love for playing arcade games with Calvin

-How he would turn the space heater on in the bathroom to be able to be cozy while doing business

-His blanket obsession he acquired from me

-His heated vest and hoodies, even at 60 degrees

-His Creed Cologne, you could smell him hours after he left the house, in the best way possible

-His gift giving talent

-His sweaty workout clothes
