Obituary

Schaumann, Kay Crockett, passed away, Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Kay Crockett Schaumann passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29th 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 86 years old.

Kay was born on May 16, 1940, in Safford, Arizona, to Osmer Owen Crockett and Jamie Permelia Hart Crockett. She was raised in Pima, Arizona, where her father worked as a dairy farmer and rancher, and she grew up knowing hard work, faith, and family that would define her entire life. Kay attended Pima High School before going on to study bacteriology at Brigham Young University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree and completed additional work toward a Master's degree. During her academic career, she was involved in research and published multiple papers in the fields of bacteriology, immunology, and materials science - a remarkable achievement for a woman of her generation.

On June 6, 1963, Kay married the love of her life, Jon Peter Schaumann, beginning a marriage and partnership that would span over six decades.

Kay was a woman of quiet strength and extraordinary talent. An accomplished, award-winning seamstress, she created countless quilts and baby blankets over the years, gifting them freely to family members, friends, and members of her church community. Her hands were rarely idle, and her generosity through craft touched more lives than can be counted. She was also a gifted vocalist with a beautiful voice, sharing her gift as a member of many choirs throughout her life. An avid gardener, she found peace and joy tending to growing things, and she brought that same nurturing spirit to everything and everyone around her.

Kay was deeply devoted to her faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served actively both as a congregant and in various leadership and teaching positions throughout her life. Service was not simply something Kay did - it was who she was. She lived a life oriented entirely around caring for others, and she did so with remarkable consistency and grace.

Those who knew Kay remember her even temper, her patience, and her quiet independence. She was generous, endlessly caring, and unfailingly kind. She served others her whole life without complaint or need for recognition, finding fulfillment in the simple act of giving.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Osmer and Jamie Crockett, and her sister, Norene Crockett Going.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Jon Peter Schaumann; her siblings Dale Crockett, Lawrence Crockett, and Rhonda Crockett Eastin; and her children and grandchildren: Scott Schaumann (wife Jeanna), and children Adrienne(husband Badr) and Dana; Michael Schaumann (wife MaryBeth), and children Lara, Jared, Miriam, and Emma; Suzanne Schaumann Thompson (husband Tadd), and children Zachary (wife Audrey) and Jessica (husband Daniel); Maren Schaumann Sharland (husband Michael), and children Joseph and Althea; David Schaumann (wife Vanessa), and children Ethan, Michael, Lienna, Anastasya, Spencer (fiancé Julia), and Isaac.

Kay's legacy lives on in the quilts that warm her loved ones, the songs she sang, the garden she tended, and above all, in the countless lives she touched through her quiet, steady service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
