Obituary

Lane Bryant Hollandsworth, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Born on April 21, 1941, in St. James, Mo., Lane was a proud patriot, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, loving brother, and loyal friend. Lane lived a full life marked by service, hard work, laughter, music, an unmistakable love for horsepower, and above all, a deep love for his family.

Lane was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Hollandsworth (née Davis), with whom he shared 57 years of love and family, and by his parents, Logan Bryant and Evelyn Hollandsworth (née Edwards).

He was a proud and loving father to daughters Kim (Tony) Hollandsworth Glass and Kelly (Tom) Hollandsworth Zahner. He was also a cherished grandfather to Jon (Melissa) Gebel, Kaitlin (Cale) Antisdel, and TJ Glass, and a proud great-grandfather to Avery Gebel, Jade Antisdel and Emmett Antisdel, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Later in life, he shared several wonderful years with his devoted partner, Barb Kirkwood, whose companionship brought him great happiness and comfort.
Lane is also survived by his siblings, Claudia (Will) Fink (née Hollandsworth) and Mark (Lis) Hollandsworth. As a brother, he was steadfast, caring, and deeply loved, sharing countless memories and enduring family bonds throughout his life. He was also a loving uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and dear friend to many. His loyalty, humor, and generous spirit created lifelong connections with all who knew him.

Lane proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he also played football while in service and carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. Following his military service, he devoted his career to the St. Louis County Police Department, where he served with distinction as a Police Officer including positions in the Detective Bureau and the Major Case Squad. He earned the respect of colleagues and community alike through his integrity, sharp instincts, tireless work ethic, and steadfast commitment to justice.

Lane believed in hard work and lived it every day. Family often described him as a true workhorse; someone who rarely slowed down and was always willing to put in the effort to provide and serve others. Even while serving full-time as a police officer, he often took on additional work, a reflection of both his determination and deep sense of responsibility.

Outside of work, nothing meant more to Lane than spending quality time with his family, particularly his daughters, whom he loved with unwavering and unconditional support throughout every stage of their lives. To them, he was not only a father, but also a hero, offering steady guidance and a reassuring presence through both life's challenges and celebrations. He was the kind of man who could fix almost any problem, and his hugs carried a warmth, love, and sense of protection that made those around him feel instantly safe. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply being together, Lane made the people he loved feel deeply cared for and valued.

Lane also knew how to enjoy life and embrace the things that brought him happiness. Throughout his life, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and playing racquetball. He was happiest with the roar of a NASCAR race or a football game on television, working on and enjoying his cars and trucks (especially his beloved El Camino that he always regretted selling), listening to his favorite music, or out on a dance floor enjoying the moment. He never met a stranger and had a sense of humor that could lighten any room. Whether cracking jokes or striking up conversations with someone new, Lane left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. As many family and friends have said, "He was one of the good guys."
