Lon Gilbert

Lon Gilbert passed away peacefully in his home on October 2, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born in St. Louis to Laurence (“L.H.”) Hulbert and Grace Ellen (née Goessling) Gilbert. Lon was a graduate of the University of Missouri, Columbia.

One of the world’s best humans has left us. Lon was kind, loving, funny, fair, wise, and incredibly multi-talented. Most who are reading this already know of his brilliance and skill as an artist-both musically and in the visual arts. He was an avid tennis player well into his 70s and was beloved by many young equestrians as a longtime parent leader of the Ace Bronco Bunch 4-H Club.

He is survived by his daughter Gwendolyn Ellen Gilbert; son Ron Gilbert; and brother George (Nancy) Gilbert. Lon was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Ann Deborah Shaw (née Gilbert).

Lon was so very loved and will be dearly missed by many.

Services: Visitation at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Friday, October 16, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Graveside service to follow at Valhalla Cemetery.
