Lucille L.
Jennings (Nee Rout)
Jul 24, 1936 — Jul 14, 2026
Chesterfield
Jennings, Lucille L., (nee Rout) baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Beloved wife of the late Richard E. Jennings of St. Louis, MO; dear mother of Sharon 'Tracy' Mayes of TX and Edie Jennings of CT; loving grandmother of Danielle (Greg) Hardnett of TX; great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend.
She lived a life defined by devotion-to her family, her faith, her career as a teacher, her passion for education, and the simple joys that brought people together. Fearless, fun-loving, and fiercely loyal, she embraced life with warmth and generosity. Whether she was spending time with friends, tending to her flower gardens, or enjoying a game of cards, she found happiness in the moments shared with those she loved.
Described as a "Master Teacher", she cared deeply about her students and stayed in contact with them over the years. She had a deeply charitable spirit and dedicated countless hours volunteering with organizations like Ready Readers, Mentor St. Louis and just helping others. She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back without hesitation, always putting the needs of others before her own. Above all, she was a devoted family woman. Her husband was the love of her life, and together they shared a remarkable marriage that spanned 65 years. Their relationship was a testament to enduring love, built on companionship, mutual respect, and a lifetime of treasured memories. He preceded her in death in April, but the love they shared remains an enduring part of her legacy. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and strength-a legacy that lives on through all who knew and loved them.
She shared a special bond with both her mother and her mother-in-law, cherishing each relationship deeply. She was a loving and devoted mother to her daughters and a proud, adoring grandmother. Her love for her family was constant, generous, and unwavering, and they were always at the center of her heart. She will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor, her unwavering kindness, her charitable spirit, her steady presence, and the love she gave so freely. Her life was a beautiful example of compassion, generosity, and devotion, and her memory will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
