Maria Paz Mayling Chenyek Carr

Maria Paz Mayling Chenyek Carr passed away on October 28, 2026. She was 83. She is survived by her husband, Capt. David Carr (TWA, ret.), her sons Edward Carr, and Scott (Kristine) Carr, her daughter Jennifer (Andrew) Duenke; her grandchildren Charles Carr, Brandon, Gina, Madison, Sofia, Lauren, Ryan, and Miriam; her great-grandchildren Jaxon, Max, and Alex.

Born in Lima, Perú to a Peruvian medical doctor and a businesswoman from Madrid, Spain, Maria graduated from Sacred Heart (Colegio Sagrado Corazón de Trujillo, Perú) and attended Brigham Young University, where she met her future husband. Marriage brought three children into the world and a lifetime of family-related adventures. Always physically fit and active, she played tennis and coached AYSO soccer. She served as president of the Parent-Teacher Association. She was a constantly present fan of her children’s sports activities and a band mom, even touring with the support staff of her daughter’s drum & bugle corps. Family trips included water skiing in various western states, visiting majestic national parks, and flying with the family up and down the California coast in small airplanes.

Maria shared the world’s most fascinating places with her family, such as capitals both modern and ancient: Lima and the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, Rome, and other significant places throughout North and South America, and Europe.

Professionally and in the community, Maria’s accomplishments were many and diverse. She was often involved in entrepreneurial endeavors, usually linking Latin America and the United States. She is a former president of the Peruvian Society of St. Louis. She assisted with the administration and management of medical missions through her involvement with the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS). Maria also served as the assistant to the Honorary Consul of Perú in St. Louis.

Maria had the blessing of being close to all her grandchildren, who are equally fortunate to have been influenced by her indomitable, seemingly inexhaustible positive spirit. Though presented with a number of physical challenges later in life, her dynamic and resolute personality touched all who knew her.
