Marie Celine
(Holthaus) Mccarthy
Apr 11, 1929 — Nov 23, 2025
Ballwin
Marie Celine (Holthaus) McCarthy, born April 11, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on November 23, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Marie is preceded in death by husband Daniel A. McCarthy, Jr.; Son, Michael Joseph McCarthy; Parents, Bernard C. and Margaret (Ibison) Holthaus; brothers Norbert, Gregory, and Michael G. Holthaus; sisters Dolores, Denise, Jean, Joan, and Barbara. Loving sister of Connie Elam. Loving mother of Brian (Debbie) McCarthy; Tara (Tom) Hippe; Devin (Chris) McCarthy; and Dan McCarthy. Loving grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of fifteen.
Although a St. Louisan, Marie spent a good portion of her childhood in Oconee, Illinois, where her parents moved during the depression and then stayed until their deaths.
Marie hit her stride as one of the top-selling realtors in St. Louis, most notably, retiring at age 90 and living independently until earlier this year.
Marie was a woman like no other - in her family, her career, and in Christ.
She lived by the motto of if you don't ask for it, you'll never get it. Marie put her trust in the Sacred Heart. She lived a life of confidence, challenging her comfort zone, staying in touch with those she loved, laughing at herself, always looking forward, and living life to the fullest.
Her most important accomplishments were being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who were lucky enough to meet her.
She taught us to be confident in who we are and what we stand for.
She wasn't afraid to look silly (as long as her face was on and her hair was done).
She'd make the point to coax a temporarily grumpy grandchild to pump an arm and say "I feel good!!!" over and over - until they'd all end up laughing.
She had a beautiful long life with many accomplishments, memories, laughter and fun, yet those who knew her feel the loss of not getting more than the portion of her 96 years we shared. More memories. More laughs. More hugs. And more lessons that can only be taught by such a strong woman in Christ.
May the Lord bless her and welcome her into the kingdom of heaven. May Christ say welcome home my good and faithful servant with you I am well pleased.
