Obituary

Mark Charles Wehking
January 9, 1950 - March 20, 2026

To be in Mark's life meant he would enter into yours. He would become a student of whatever you loved: asking questions, reading books, spending unhurried time learning who you were. His thirst for knowledge was matched only by his love for people, and both were vast.

He loved his wife Mary Ann with a deep and abiding love - a love that was steady and sure, woven into the ordinary days as much as the extraordinary ones. She was his anchor and his home.

Into his daughters Stacy and Laura, and their husbands Doug Outman and Matt Pinkstaff, he poured love and wisdom in equal measure. He invested in them - not fleetingly, but with the full weight of his attention and his heart.

And then there were his nine grandchildren. Mark entered into each of their worlds the same way he entered everyone's - fully, curiously and joyfully. He celebrated their every adventure, and sometimes he stepped right into those adventures alongside them. Bennett, Dessa, Reese, Sophia, Hannah, Ivy, Zander, Xavier and Mitchell knew him as Papa, and adored him.

Mark was also an adventurer. Whether it was kayaking down the river with his Missouri Whitewater crew, fishing with his buddies from the Ozarks to Alaska, a trip to the farm, or a simple walk through Queeny Park, Mark was all in on the outdoors. And he always came prepared. Whatever he didn't have in his pocket he usually had in the back of his truck.

He was a man of deep friendships, quiet mornings, strong coffee, good conversations and books that went over most of our heads. He was the engineer who could build anything, fix everything, and was always willing to help. But his real gift was making the people around him feel known and loved.

Mark left this world on March 20, 2026, and he'll be missed in all the places he used to fill - at the table, on the water, or in the middle of a good story. But the memories he made, the words he gave us, and the love he shared, we'll hold tightly to our hearts, forever.
