Mary C. Johnson (nee Raynett)

Mary C. Johnson (Raynett), 78, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep on November 6, 2026.

Born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, Mary attended Richwoods High School before continuing her education at Bradley University, where she met the love of her life and soulmate, Roger. She graduated from Bradley in 1970, and the two were married in 1973, beginning a love story that remained the center of her heart throughout her life.

Mary went on to build a long and meaningful career as a special education teacher. She dedicated herself to touching the lives of countless children before retiring in 2009. Her years in education reflected her caring nature and the difference one person can make in the lives of others.

In 2016, Mary moved from Illinois to Ballwin, Missouri, to be closer to her family. While she enjoyed many things in life, nothing compared to becoming a grandmother. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and truly her purpose.

Her first grandson, Elias, arrived in 2002, followed by Tyler in 2006 and her granddaughter, Sydney, in 2008. Each held a special place in her heart. Whether traveling to Indiana to spend time with Elias, running errands with Tyler, or shopping and gossiping with Sydney, Mary treasured every moment. She didn’t just love being a grandmother; she lived for it. Her grandchildren were her world, and there was never any question about who her favorite people were.

Mary also had a love for shopping-and then a little more shopping-collecting antiques, traveling to see Home Free concerts, and spending time at her happy place, St. Pete Beach. She found joy in little adventures, treasures waiting to be discovered, and memories made along the way.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband and soulmate, Roger, who passed away 17 years ago. She leaves behind her children, Chris Johnson and Melissa Matheny (Ryan), and her three cherished grandchildren, Elias Johnson, Tyler Matheny, and Sydney Matheny.

For the past 17 years, a piece of Mary’s heart had been missing. We find comfort in knowing that she is finally reunited with the love of her life. We can only imagine the two of them together again, wandering through antique shops, finding treasures, and, of course, talking about how absolutely amazing their grandchildren are. Some things never change.

Mary will be cremated, and her family will plan a celebration of life in her honor, tentatively scheduled for December. Details will be shared once arrangements have been finalized.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered by the family who meant everything to her.
