Haralson, Melissa Anne, passed peacefully on Aug. 9, 2026, at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend whose kindness, generosity and love for her family touched the lives of so many.
Melissa was born Oct. 22, 1974, and lived her entire life in the St. Louis county area. She was the treasured daughter of Kathleen M. Ferrell and Joseph R. Haralson, deceased. She is survived by her three children, Demetrius S. Johns, Alexander F. Johns, and Elizabeth A. Johns; her grandchildren Amelia Johns and Aurora Johns; her aunt, Kathy Haralson; and numerous cousins, step-siblings and step-cousins. She was preceded in death by her loving stepfather, Richard D. Brasington; and her aunt, Barbara Gaines (nee Ferrell).
Melissa’s greatest joy and accomplishments were raising her three wonderful children, and she devoted her life to loving, supporting and caring for them. Her family grew even more precious to her with the arrival of her two beautiful granddaughters, and she treasured every moment she spent with them, creating memories filled with love and laughter.
Melissa enjoyed travel, most recently on a cruise with her mother and daughter to the Caribbean. During her youth, she especially loved annual trips to a dude ranch in Colorado but her favorite trip was to Ireland with her mother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and volunteering, especially for the Arthritis Foundation annual Cabin Fever weekend for children with arthritis. As a youth, she sang in the First Congregational Church children’s choir and was an active member of the youth fellowship.
Melissa particularly loved animals and had a caring heart for all creatures, frequently finding homes for stray kittens and puppies. That same thoughtfulness and compassion extended to everyone around her. She had many friends and was always there to offer a helping hand, listening ear or whatever support she could give.
Melissa’s life was centered around the people she loved. Her greatest legacy will live on through her children, her granddaughters and many friends whose lives were made better through her friendship and kindness. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever carried in the hearts of those who loved her,
