Obituary

Michael "Mike" Dennis Moll was born on September 24th, 1949, in St. Louis, Missouri to Leonell "Nell" Catherine Diekemper Moll and Dennis Joseph Moll, both of whom preceded him in death. Mike was Dennis and Nell's firstborn, and the oldest of six children. Mike was a loving husband to Dixie Lee Hall Moll. Dixie was born on November 19th, 1949, to Ethel Koebel Hall and Vernon Charles "Poodles" Hall. Mike and Dixie were married on October 28th, 1978, at Central Presbyterian Church in Clayton, Missouri. Mike and Dixie brought two boys into the world - first was Corey Michael Moll on December 11th, 1985, and second was Colin Matthew Moll on November 12th, 1988. Mike's family was the pillar of his life's work, and he is survived by all three. Mike is also survived by Jeremy Michael Lo, whom Colin married on October 1st, 2022, in Portland, Oregon.

Mike was raised in a loving Catholic household and aspired to be a priest after attending St. Mary's Grade School (Lambert, Missouri) and Seminary High School (Warrenton, Missouri). Mike was incredibly proud to be part of the graduating class of 1967. According to some figures, this group of Passionists was the most well accomplished and collegial. Ultimately, the priesthood was not to be for Mike. After some soul searching, he settled on several objectives: study accounting, listen to Simon & Garfunkel and pair off with a Catholic girl.

He succeeded in his studies and graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis and became a Certified Public Accountant. Mike led a successful career spanning five decades. Highlights of his early career include staff accounting at Arch Mineral and Peabody. He transitioned to higher education when he got a job at Washington University in St. Louis (WashU), where he worked for twenty years (1986 - 2006) in the School of Engineering. While at WashU, Mike earned a Masters in Business Administration, held multiple administrative roles and made many lifelong friends. WashU recently honored Mike's twenty years of service with a collegiate medal of service - particularly for his contributions as Vice Dean of Business Affairs. In Mike's last decade of professional life, he brought his unique skillset to a variety of organizations including Vanderbilt University, Meramec Valley Bank (now Montgomery Bank) and Catholic Charities of St. Louis.

Back to pairing off with a Catholic girl - that did not happen. Instead, Mike married a good Protestant girl. Mike and Dixie were both of German descent, however, and lifelong St. Louisans. While Mike brought financial sense to the relationship, Dixie brought the artistic. They really were the perfect pair, so no one objected. This new family decided to call Manchester United Methodist Church their spiritual home, and this is where their two sons were baptized and confirmed. While Mike was a good friend to MUMC for over 40 years, he kept the Catholic faith that he learned from his mother and all those Diekemper relatives.

Mike was an athlete. He loved to run, swim and bike. He competed in marathons and triathlons. Mike was always able to find new people to join him in these arduous activities - probably because he promised to give good financial advice if they stuck around. Many did, which was likely due to the quality of Mike's financial advice rather than any value derived from sore knees. Mike was a historian. He read many books on American history and frequently attended author events at St. Louis Public Library. Mike was a competitor. He never let Nell win a game of Three - even when she was 97 years old.

Cancer is what led to Mike's death. He received high-quality care from St. Luke's Medical Group, Saint Louis University Physician's Group, Siteman Cancer Center and Evelyn's House. Mike's family wishes to thank these compassionate caregivers for extending Mike's life and caring for the whole person.

Mike is survived by his five siblings: Jim Moll (Toni Moll), John Moll (Lois Moll), Pete Moll, Jane Buehler (Ray Buehler) and Dan Moll (Kelly Moll). Mike's brothers and sister brought many nieces and nephews into the world: Rusty, Maddie, Chip, Nick, Bill, Ryan, Ray, Bob, Tom, McKenzie, Alex and DJ.

A private service will be held in December 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to MUMC's General Fund at https://onrealm.org/ManchesterUMC/-/form/give/now . Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at Schrader.com.
