Obituary

McNalley, Dr. Michael, passed away, Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Loving husband of Iris McNalley (nee Keller). Beloved father of Patrick P.(Mary) McNalley and Michelle J. (the late David) Wilson. Stepfather of Jeff (Jeanne) Usher, Julie (Larry) Pellicano and the late Amy Green. Loving grandfather and great grandfather. Brother of the late Marie Tetrick. Uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Born on November 16, 1923, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mike's journey is filled with passion, curiosity, and dedication. Mike was named after his grandfather, a veterinarian known for raising and caring for racehorses, as well as tending to fire and police horses. This legacy of compassion and service influenced Mike from a young age. Growing up, he fondly remembered riding the streetcar to school and exploring the ash pits behind his home. There, he would discover discarded treasures like old clocks and broken items, which he would bring home to disassemble and repair. This early tinkering sparked his lifelong fascination with antique clocks, eventually leading him to collect and restore them for others. Mike's ingenuity and adventurous spirit were evident from his youth. As a boy, he constructed and raced his first Soapbox Derby car, winning a trip to Chicago. In high school, he and his friends built a 22-foot sailboat and spent many joyful hours sailing together. After graduating high school, Mike enrolled at Washington University. However, his studies were interrupted by the outbreak of World War II. He put his education on hold, enlisted in the Navy, and served for two and a half years until the war concluded. Upon returning home, he resumed his studies at Washington University, ultimately earning his medical degree (MD). Following graduation, Mike completed a year in Pathology at Washington University, an internship at Johns Hopkins, and a two-year residency at Vanderbilt University, where he received his degree in Gynecology and Obstetrics. Following in his father's footsteps, Mike served on the staff of Barnes Jewish Hospital, Missouri Baptist Hospital, and St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, and maintained a private practice. After two decades of dedicated practice, Mike transitioned to a role in Risk Management at St. Joseph Hospital, overseeing Emergency Labor, Delivery, and Gynecology. He concluded his distinguished career by retiring at the age of 70 and a half. Mike's hobbies and passions included skiing, white water rafting, flying, traveling worldwide, nature, gardening, studying plants, trees, sky and weather, oil painting and woodworking.
