(Mildred) Jane
Buckley
Apr 9, 1925 — Sep 18, 2026
Eureka
(Mildred) Jane Buckley, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and dear friend, peacefully left us Friday, September 18, 2026 at the seasoned age of 101.
Known for being the friendliest person in the world…always asking about the person in front of her and their family…she leaves many who love her, but she is, no doubt, being welcomed by the many family members who've departed this earth throughout her long life.
As the long-surviving matriarch of the family, she worked in the household kitchen to cook the BEST fried chicken, taco salad, deviled eggs, and potato salad. She also made applesauce from scratch and made sure to add enough sugar to make it sweet (just like her). She was unexpectedly tasked with raising five teenagers single-handedly with supportive neighbors nearby. Before becoming a wife and mother, she grew up in Callao, Missouri as the eldest of three children. She worked on the farm carrying the wood inside. She rode a horse to school, enjoyed playing basketball on the dirt court, and learned the saxophone. Her early jobs included babysitting, working at a bank, and being behind the counter of an auto parts store. She eventually transitioned to Rebstock Conveyors, Shanahan Crane and Hoist, and worked many years at Plasti-Lite Signs - even part-time into her nineties.
Hosting family holidays in her apartment meant the world to her. She would always clean up the table and move to the kitchen where conversations happened as the dishes were being hand-dried. (The dishwasher was for storage only!) During those holiday events and any other gathering, she was famous for taking pictures. Unfortunately, once the photos were developed most of the subjects' heads were cut off. Dancing to "Big Band" music was another enjoyment. She loved reading the newspaper and watching Cardinals baseball or Mizzou basketball. Yadi was her favorite player, and she would cut out news articles about the Cards to send to her sister in Kansas City. With season tickets, she also joined her daughter at the Kiel Center to watch the indoor soccer games. Attending her kids', grandkids' and great-grandkids' sporting activities was a joy even if she took numerous shortcuts to get there. She watched so many soccer games, she could probably coach a team herself.
In her later years, she was an avid Grandpad user and loved playing bingo and solitaire until the device's low battery signal chimed. When that would happen, she'd just switch to her worn, blue deck of playing cards. She lit up when family members would ask to join her solitaire games. Now, the glue that held our earthly family together, is playing a giant game of solitaire with all her heavenly family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Perle and Blanche Marie, her husband of 23 years, Paul Patrick, who passed away in 1969, her cherished siblings, Donald (the late Betty) and Carol (Donald), her adored nephew, John (Lily) who passed away in 2024, both sets of precious twin baby daughters, Francis June and Loretta Jean, and Karen and Sharon, and her beloved daughter Barbara, who passed away earlier this year.
Jane is survived by her two children, Steve (Patty), Trish (the late Dave), her nieces, Jan (the late Jerry), Janet, Gina, her nephews, John and Andy, her four granddaughters, Amy (Keith), Cherie (Chris), Rachel (David), and Emily (Ben), her seven cherished great-grandchildren, Tanner, Melissa (Sebastian), Nicholas (Katherine), Sabrina, Max, Ellie, Cooper, as well as, many other extended family members and treasured friends. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all who were a special part of her lengthy life.
