Obituary

Miquel L. Blackford, beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away on November 1, 2025 at the age of 88 at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO; her loving son, Mark Blackford was at her bedside.

Born on February 25, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas, to Donald and Lucille Raffety, Miquel grew up with a strong sense of family, kindness, and curiosity about the world. She attended Oklahoma University, where she met the love of her life, John "Sandy" Blackford. Their bond was immediate and enduring, leading to a marriage that spanned many years filled with laughter, love, and shared adventure.  Together, Miquel and Sandy built a beautiful life and raised two sons, Gregory Blackford and Mark Blackford, of whom she was endlessly proud. Miquel was known for her warmth, her gentle spirit, and her ability to make everyone around her feel welcome and loved. Miquel was an avid waterfowl hunter and angler who cherished early mornings on the water and quiet evenings by a campfire/fire. Her appreciation for the natural world was matched by her creativity-she was a gifted artist and craftsperson whose hands were rarely still. Whether she was painting, creating something beautiful by hand, or tending to her garden, Miquel's artistry shone through in everything she touched.

Her gardens were a reflection of her vibrant spirit, filled with color, care, and a touch of whimsy. A dedicated member of her local garden club, Miquel served as its past president and remained an active participant, sharing her knowledge and passion with fellow gardeners. She loved nurturing both plants and people, always encouraging others to find beauty and peace in growing things.

Miquel's life was one of creativity, kindness, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys-good company, a day outdoors, and the satisfaction of a life well-lived.

Mike leaves behind a devoted family who will cherish her memory forever: her loving son, Mark Blackford, and daughter-in-law, Darlene; her granddaughter, Megan Blackford Richardson, and husband, Tyler; daughter-in-law, Lynne Blackford; grandson, Cameron Blackford; granddaughters, Jamie Wagner and Ryan Ray; and her sister, Patricia Ramsey. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren who will remember her warmth, laughter, and unwavering love.

Miquel was preceded in death by her husband, John "Sandy" Blackford; her son, Gregory Blackford; her brothers, Donald and Kent Raffety; and her parents, Donald and Lucille Raffety.

Though her absence leaves an ache in the hearts of all who loved her. Mike's legacy lives on through her generosity, the kindness she shared, and the deep love she gave so freely. Her spirit will forever remain a guiding light for her family and friends.
