Pierre William Belleville

Pierre William Belleville passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026. He was born on February 6, 1941.

Pierre was educated in St. Louis Public Schools, attending Baden Elementary and Beaumont High School before graduating from Harris Teachers College. He spent his early career as an elementary school teacher in St. Louis Public Schools and Riverview Gardens. Fittingly, he met his wife, Margie, in 1964 while both were employed by the St. Louis (City) Parks department as summer recreation employees at Dickman Park in Baden.

Pierre had a patient and lighthearted spirit, a servant’s heart, and a quiet gift for investing in others. He was kind to everyone he met. Even near the end of his life, the doctors and nurses who cared for him were visibly saddened to hear he was not doing well, a reflection of the way he made people feel seen and valued.

He cared deeply for the world around him. A recycler and water conservationist long before it was fashionable, Pierre shared his love of nature and ecology with his students, with the youth he taught in retirement at Camp Wyman, with Sunday school children at Trinity Lutheran Church, and especially with his four grandchildren.

He loved golf and bowling, and he stayed active as long as he was able, whether walking through the neighborhood or going to the gym nearly every day. Whether it was dedication to fitness or simply an inability to sit still, those who knew him knew he liked to keep moving.

Pierre also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: the occasional glass of burgundy, a small margarita on Monday nights at El Maguey, a good game, time outdoors, and putting on plays with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierre and Joyce (Overbeck) Belleville; his father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Amelia (Klaric)Potocnjak; and his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne (Belleville) and Vernon Colvis.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia Margaret (Potocnjak) Belleville; his children, Laura Belleville and David Belleville; David’s wife, Laurie (Steibel) Belleville and his proudest joys, his grandchildren Brooke, Luke, Emma, and Ryan. He is also survived by sisters and brothers in law, Linda and David Smith, Caryl and Dirk Childers and Robert Potocnjak in addition to nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, Danbury neighbors and friends.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nurses of the third-floor infusion center at Pratt Cancer Center- Mercy Hospital St. Louis, whose kindness and care meant so much. Finally, thanks to Dr. S. Timothy Decha-Umphai whose care and compassion we will always remember.
