Randall "Randy"
C. Richards
Mar 20, 1955 — Jul 26, 2026
Troy
Randall (Randy) C. Richards passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Randy was preceded in death by his loving parents Curtis and Darlene Richards. Dear brother of Rhonda (Richards) Copeland and Rob Richards. Loving uncle of Kevin Copeland, Eric (Jennifer) Copeland and Bryan Copeland (Andrea), and great uncle of Gavin, Riley and Kaylie Copeland. His brother in law Chuck Copeland, Uncle Elmer Tilberg, Aunts Evelyn Pierson, Thelma Erpenbach, Dorothy Tilberg and his passed prior. His Aunt Evelyn still resides in South Dakota. He has many cousins in Missouri and South Dakota, with a few scattered across the United States.
Randy was the first-born child of Curt and Darlene Richards in Birmingham, Alabama. His parents moved to St. Louis, MO when Randy was less than a year old, settling into a house in Berkely, Missouri. He was joined by his sister Rhonda four years later, and his brother Rob 16 years later. Randy was born with cerebral palsy in the 50's, long before inclusion. He graduated from the St Louis Special School District in 1975.
Randy reluctantly moved to St Peters, Mo in 1987 with his parents and brother Rob. Though he was not happy about the move, he eventually learned to love the area; while making friends with countless neighbors while walking their beloved dog, Maggie.
It was during this time that Randy volunteered at Delmar Gardens West for more than 20 years where mom worked as the Activity Director. He helped get residents to the beauty shop and activity area, and he grew close with many people in the community, residents and workers alike.
In 2005 Randy moved with his parents to Troy, Missouri. As with many other changes in his life, Randy wasn't ready for the move but grew accustomed to the 6 acre lot and the space it gave him to enjoy bonfires and walks around their neighborhood pond with his dog Lucy, usually with one of the cats in tow.
Randy loved to listen to his classic rock and of course the Three Stooges, old westerns and old tv shows. He was obsessed with Cardinals baseball, happily enduring the heat (and getting hit with a foul ball) to go to the games at the old and new Busch Stadium. His smile could light up a room, when he chose to smile; but his cantankerous demeaner was something everyone grew to love. His memory of factoids, radio stations and geography was beyond compare.
After his parents passed, Randy started to embrace his independence. His disability was something many saw as an obstacle that he couldn't overcome. But he learned to embrace technology that could help him with his safety and was able to make changes later in his life that helped him learn more about himself and the world around him. It was a joy to see Randy bloom, and now we mourn the loss of such a wonderful and kind brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. The world was a better place with Randy in it.
