Raymond R.
Vollmer
d. Jul 14, 2026
Fenton
Raymond R. Vollmer, age 69, was baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on July 14, 2026.
Beloved husband of Jolene Vollmer (née Hoerner). Loving brother of Sharon (Mark) Tisius, Keith Vollmer, and Karla (Kent) Wolf. Cherished son-in-law of Darlene Hoerner (Donald Schmitt). Dear brother-in-law of Sharon McDaniel and Ron (Lynn) Hoerner. Proud uncle, cousin, and treasured friend to many.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy (née Bathon) and Raymond G. Vollmer; his father-in-law, Joseph W. Hoerner; and his brother-in-law, Wayne C. McDaniel.
Ray grew up in Ferguson, Missouri, where he attended St. Sebastian Catholic Grade School before graduating from De Smet Jesuit High School. A gifted athlete, he excelled on the football field and earned a scholarship to Western Illinois University, where he proudly played for the Leathernecks. Football remained one of his lifelong passions. He earned his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University and an MBA from Fontbonne University before pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy, beginning a rewarding career in healthcare.
It was while working at Jewish Hospital in 1988 that Ray met the love of his life, Jolene. Their meeting marked the beginning of a devoted partnership filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
Ray embraced life with enthusiasm. He enjoyed playing softball, hiking, and spending time outdoors. Although he wasn't so sure about cycling when Jolene first introduced him to it, it quickly became one of their favorite shared pastimes. Together they spent countless hours riding scenic trails throughout the USA and abroad, hiking new paths, and creating memories while enjoying the beauty of nature. Ray also loved rock and roll music, sharing a cold beer with friends, hosting their annual Cinco de Mayo party, and hanging out with his beloved dogs. His warmth, sense of humor, and generous spirit made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
For the past 25 years, Ray was an integral part of the AIMS Program at Saint Louis University. As the welcoming face of the program, he helped inspire generations of students to appreciate the remarkable complexity of the human body and the privilege of caring for it. His dedication to education, compassion for others, and ability to connect with students left a lasting impact on countless future healthcare professionals.
Ray will be remembered for his love of family, his loyal friendships, his passion for teaching, and the kindness and enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
