Richard "Dick"
Eugene Berning Jr.
Jun 26, 1951 — Apr 30, 2026
Chesterfield
Berning, Richard "Dick" Eugene, Jr., 74, of Chesterfield, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
He was born on June 26, 1951, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Richard (Sr.) and Virginia Berning. He grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and later lived in Batesville, Indiana, before spending the past 18 years in St. Louis, Missouri.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Lorri Berning (née Beckman); his daughters, Jennifer Berning and Lauren (Adam) Grimm; and his siblings, Kathy (Jim) Goodwin and Carol Groulx, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Sr. and Virginia Berning, and his son, Richard Berning III.
Dick graduated from Clay High School in 1969 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in accounting from Indiana University. He spent the majority of his professional career with Hill-Rom in Batesville, Indiana.
Dick found great joy in riding his bike, cooking meals for those he loved, and traveling the country in his RV with Lorri. His curiosity led him far and wide, and he never stopped learning. There was not a roadside plaque or monument that he would not pull over or stop at to read. He was a stranger to no one and a friendly face to all who met him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and togetherness that his family will carry forward through sharing meals, exploring new places, and supporting one another.
Dick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services: A private memorial service will be held at Bellerive Gardens, in St. Louis, where he will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Park Foundation . As a service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, Ballwin, MO, friends may sign the family's on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
