Obituary

With broken hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Sally Orr Bokal, who left this world on September 18th, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born on May 18th, 1945, in Columbia, Missouri, Sally spent most of her life in St. Louis, where she raised her family, built lifelong friendships, and left a legacy of kindness, humor, and compassion that will live on in all who knew her.

Sally was the devoted mother of four children: Scott (Carrie) Bokal, Sunny Bokal, Brad (Erin) Bokal, and Betsey Bokal Richardson. She was the proud and loving "Gammaw" to seven cherished grandchildren: Sally, Jack, Mary, Boden, Caroline, Cason, and Harlow. Her family was her heart, and nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by the love of her life, John Douglas, whose memory she held close to her in her heart. Their love was deep and enduring- a true partnership and source of strength and joy.

For over 30 years, Sally dedicated herself to education as an elementary school teacher at Ross Elementary and Bellerive Elementary. She had a gift for making every child feel seen and valued, and her influence continues in the lives of countless former students.

Sally loved life- truly loved it. She found joy in family gatherings, long talks with friends, shopping trips, music (especially Elvis Presley), and classic films, with Gone with the Wind as her favorite. She was funny, fiercely loyal, deeply kind, and a proud patriot who loved the American flag and all it symbolized. She raised her children with intention, grace, and love- something they carry with them every day.

Sally touched so many lives, and though she is no longer with us, her spirit continues in the laughter she inspired, the love she gave, and the values she instilled.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at Trinity Lutheran Church. 14088 Clayton Rd. Chesterfield, MO 63017 on Saturday, November 8th, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in Sally's memory-reach out to someone, lend a hand, or simply share a smile-because that's what she would have done.

As a service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, friends may sign the family's on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
