McCarthy, Sarah  Elizabeth  (nee Chmelir), baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the age of 48.

Loving wife of Chris McCarthy; beloved mother of Elise and Claire McCarthy and the family dog "Bongo"; daughter of Bill (Julie) Chmelir and Dedie (Steve) Baker (nee King); sister of Jenny (Matt) Voelker (nee Chmelir) and Brian Chmelir; aunt of Alex, Ryan and Evan Voelker; loving niece, aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Sarah grew up in Warson Woods and graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1995. She studied at UMSL and St. Louis Community College and received her paramedic license in 2001. Sarah was a police dispatcher for the cities of Glendale, Kirkwood, and Creve Coeur, and she served as a reserve firefighter with Eureka Fire Protection District from 1999 to 2004. Sarah started her career as a full-time paramedic with St. Charles County Ambulance District in 2002. In the same year, she married her best friend, Chris. While Sarah was a passionate St. Louis sports fan, she was even more enthusiastic about her daughters' sports achievements. She sought out the good in people, found opportunities to care for others, and often did these acts in anonymity expecting nothing in return. Sarah's dedication and compassion strengthened our community.

Services: Funeral Mass at The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, 4431 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Bellerive Gardens, 740 N. Mason Rd, St. Louis.  If desired, contributions may be made to The Backstoppers or Supporting Heroes .
