Obituary

Steven "Steve" Robert Derryberry, 43, of Pacific, Missouri, passed away on July 1, 2026, just weeks before his 44th birthday. Steve was born on July 27, 1982, in Kirkwood, Missouri, and spent his childhood growing up in the Westglen Woods neighborhood of Ballwin, Missouri, where he built lifelong friendships and countless memories.

Steve was the beloved son of Kathryn Derryberry and Larry Derryberry. He was also a loving brother to Amanda Derryberry (42), Matthew "Matt" Derryberry (39), and Andrew "Drew" Derryberry (37), sharing with them a lifetime of memories, laughter, and an unbreakable family bond.

He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply: his daughter, Elyse Derryberry (26); his son, Kanen Derryberry (21); his son, Rielan Derryberry (19); and his cherished granddaughter, Aspen Nicole (6), who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Before his passing, Steven was overjoyed to find out that his daughter Elyse was pregnant with his second grandchild.

Steve built a career through hard work and determination as a proud member of Laborers Local Union #42. He later founded and operated a successful concrete business serving the St. Louis area, earning a reputation for his work ethic, resilience, and commitment to doing every job right.

Away from work, Steve had a lifelong passion for hockey. A devoted fan of the St. Louis Blues, he began playing the sport as a young boy and continued throughout his youth and into adulthood. His dedication and talent carried him as far as the minor league Blues' tryouts; an accomplishment few can boast about.

Music was another constant throughout Steve's life. His playlists were filled with the sounds that defined the 1990s and early 2000s, especially grunge and hard rock. Whether it was Alice in Chains, Sammy Hagar, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Nirvana, Pantera, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Avenged Sevenfold, or countless others, music was always playing and always meant something to him.

Steve was also a faithful member of New Beginnings Church in Pacific, Missouri, where he was actively attending at the time of his passing. His faith remained an important part of his journey. Tattooed on his right arm were the words of Philippians 4:13, a verse that reflected the determination with which he faced life:

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13

Steve was larger than life. He possessed extraordinary strength, both physically and mentally, and never hesitated to speak exactly what was on his mind. He believed in being authentic, standing his ground, and giving everything he had. His only true fear was failure, and he met every challenge with relentless determination.

Steve lived life at full speed. He embraced every moment, chased every opportunity, and packed more experiences into 43 years than many do in an entire lifetime. His adventurous spirit, fearless attitude, unforgettable stories, and unwavering love for his family made him one of a kind. While his journey was far from ordinary, it was undeniably full, and those who knew him will forever remember the passion and intensity with which he lived.

Above all else, Steve loved his children and grandchildren. The pride he carried for them was evident to everyone who knew him, and his legacy will continue through the lives they build and the memories they carry forward. He often said that he raised "three winners," a reflection of how incredibly proud he was of his children and the people they had become.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow union brothers, church family, and all whose lives he touched. Though he is gone too soon, his strength, determination, humor, and unmistakable spirit will never be forgotten.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7
