Susan K.
Fox (Nee Wheeler)
Jul 4, 1941 — Aug 30, 2026
Ballwin
Susan K. Fox (nee Wheeler), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away in St. Louis, Missouri, on August 30, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on July 4, 1941, in Muscatine, Iowa, where she grew up before spending several decades in the Quad Cities. Throughout her life, Susan brought laughter, love, and care to the people around her.
Family was Susan's greatest joy. She treasured time spent together and was a firm believer in the traditions that brought everyone back together year after year. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved nothing more than making people laugh. Her warmth, wit, and ability to make others feel cared for were a gift to everyone who knew her.
Susan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: bowling, playing cards, tending to her garden, and spending time with her beloved dogs, several of whom shared her home throughout the years. She had a special way of turning ordinary moments into lasting memories, and many of her family's favorite traditions and stories will always be connected to her.
A lifelong caregiver at heart, Susan built a career in education and had a genuine passion for helping and taking care of others. Whether through her work, her family, or the many people whose lives she touched, she gave generously of herself and made caring for others a central part of who she was.
Susan was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Nowell; her second husband, Arthur Fox; her son, David Nowell; her son-in-law, Ellery Queen; and her brother, William Wheeler.
She is survived by her children, Timothy Nowell (Nancy), James Nowell, Kevin Nowell (Sara), and Barbara Nowell; step-son Gary Fox (Kimberly); eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathy Jackson; her sister-in-law, Donna Wheeler; and their families; Dawn Nowell and Robert Schmit, along with countless other family members and friends who will miss her deeply.
Susan's greatest legacy is the family she loved so fiercely and the traditions, laughter, stories, and love she leaves behind. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her quick sense of humor, her love of family, and the countless ways she cared for the people around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the generations she loved so dearly.
