Verena (Jackie) Hankins

Verena (Jackie) Hankins, 95, of Chesterfield, MO, born January 22, 1931, in St. Libory, IL, died peacefully in her home on September 28, 2026.

Jackie was a “stay-at-home” mom for many years. During those years, she volunteered at various school and church activities, and she found joy in sewing, crafting, arranging flowers, and sharing her creativity with others. Later, she worked as an office manager until she retired to be a caregiver to her husband.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Dawson, grandchildren, Catherine (Chris) Becker and David (Genevieve) Dawson, great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Wyatt Becker and Caroline (Cece) Dawson, sister, Dolores (Dee) Wangerin, and sisters-in-law, Katharine (Kay), Marie Buescher, Sue Hale, and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray T. Hankins, whom she married on September 5, 1953, and who passed away on April 7, 1997; her parents, Leo and Katherine (nee Sommer) Buescher; her brothers, Raymond, Edwin, and Omar Buescher; her sisters, Aurie Hummert, Lydia Bellm, and Betty Moats; her sister-in-law, Celeste Buescher; and her brothers-in-law, Elmer Hummert, Roland Bellm, William Moats, and Donald Wangerin, along with numerous other brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends.

Services: Funeral Mass at Ascension Catholic Church, 230 Santa Maria Dr, Chesterfield, Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held in the Parish Hall immediately following the service, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to your charity of choice.
