Obituary

Vidya Rao , affectionately known as "Baby" to her family, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri. She spent her final moments surrounded by the deep love of the family she spent her life nurturing.

Born on July 11, 1939, in Andhra Pradesh, India, Vidya brought a boundless energy and a "zest for life" to everything she did. She was a woman of immense intellect and curiosity, possessing a vast knowledge of the world that she shared generously with others. Whether she was tending to her beloved plants and garden, preparing a meal for loved ones, or lost in the pages of a classic novel, Vidya moved through life with a radiant warmth and a legendary smile.  She had exquisite taste and was known for a simple, yet elegant style that reflected her inner grace.  She always retained a young-at-heart spirit that endeared her to every generation.

A pillar of her community, Vidya found profound meaning in her service at the Hindu Temple of St. Louis . There, she was a constant, helpful presence, forging deep friendships and touching countless lives through her volunteer work and kindness.

Vidya was preceded in death by her beloved husband, GV Rao . Her legacy of love and wisdom continues through her devoted daughter and son, Anita Rao and Madhu Rao, and daughter-in-law, Roshni Rao.  She is survived by two sisters and numerous relatives across many generations who will remember her fondly.

In honor of Vidya's dedication to service and her love for bringing people together, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hindu Temple of St. Louis  for the Vidya Rao Memorial Kitchen Fund . May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may those who knew her find solace in the vibrant, beautiful memories she leaves behind
