Obituary

William (Bill, Billy) Lee Godsey passed away peacefully, Saturday December 13, 2025.

Beloved husband of Peggy Godsey (Pulley). Loving father of Jana L. (Bob) Jones and Alan Godsey. Beloved "Fafa" of Rob (Kym) and Dan (Nikki) Jones and cherished "Papadoo" of Sean and Caitlin Godsey and Great Grandfather of Lily Jones. Dear uncle, cousin, and friend of many. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, his parents, William and Margaret Louise Godsey, his stepmother Dilla and his brother, Lawrence (Marcelle) Godsey.

Bill was born in Bristol, Tennessee, September 15, 1933. After graduating high school, he attended The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in pursuit of an engineering degree. There, he met the true love of his life, Peggy and they were married on his birthday September 15, 1956. Following graduation, he applied his engineering talents to a career at General Dynamics, which took him first to Ft. Worth, Texas, where he and Peggy started their family. First came Jana, followed by Alan. His career took the family on a journey to Ohio, Maryland, Missouri, again to Ohio, Brussels, Belgium and Southern California. Upon retirement the couple moved to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee until 2015, when they moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be close to Jana and family and to have a good central location for travel.

Though, at heart a country boy from Tennessee, he broke with tradition in many ways and decided to become a skier (so the family became skiers), a sailor (family included), a golfer (some family not so much) and a disco dancer (Peggy included)! Bill was well known for his prowess in yarn-spinning, great humor and his joie de vivre. He always had a joke ready for any occasion. In Belgium, he discovered a love of wine. He nurtured that love and thoroughly enjoyed describing the intricacies of each bottle to pretty much anyone who would listen. He and Peggy hosted many a wine tasting party in their home, wherever that may have been.

In 2024, Peggy passed, and instead of curling up and fading away, Bill kept an incredibly positive outlook and truly loved his life. Particularly his daily rides with Jana and his "tuck in calls" with Alan.

Bill will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. His life and its impact on those he loved was invaluable and his legacy shall carry on.
