Obituary

William "Bill" David Luttrell, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, fell peacefully into the arms of his Savior on November 13, 2025 at the age of 90. He lived a life of commitment, loyalty and love for God, his family and his country. Born in Memphis, TN  to Beryl Markham and Virginia Smith Luttrell, Bill grew up with his brother Bob in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on a farm.  He was always 'big brother' to Bob. He graduated high school in Indianola, MS before attending college at Mississippi State University where he met the love of his life, Sandra Stone… his best friend's sister.  After graduating from Mississippi State University with a degree in Business as a Sigma Chi in ROTC, Bill and Sandy married and were stationed in Pittsburgh, PA where he was proud to serve his country in the United States Army.  Following his military service he relocated back to Memphis, TN where he started a family and began a career with the 3M Company Duplicating Division later transferring to Chesterfield, MO as the District Manager for twenty-one years with multiple awards.  After 3M, he worked in Marketing and Business Development helping several companies with their corporate strategies for success.  Following their dream of a Florida retirement, Bill and Sandy moved to Pensacola for ten years enjoying sailing, the Blue Angels and time with their son's family.  During that time he was honored to serve the Ronald McDonald House as a volunteer and board member. Later they returned home to St. Louis residing in the Lake St. Louis community where they enjoyed boating with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra "Sandy" Sue Luttrell, with whom he shared an amazing 67 years of a sweet and devoted marriage.  Together they built a loving family with their two children, Laura Luttrell Gierhart (Dennis) and David Carroll Luttrell (Julie) and cherished time with  both of them, especially Bill's daily talks with Laura and sailing trips with David.  He was so proud of his children, rejoiced in their achievements and loved his grandchildren Kyle Markham Luttrell (Mikayla), Ryan Samuel Luttrell (Audrey), Anna Laura Gierhart and Hannah Rose Luttrell. He adored his great grandchildren Sean Markham Luttrell and Weston Edward Luttrell who brought him laughter and joy.  Bill enjoyed a special close relationship with his step-grandson Shane Michael Gierhart (Jen) and their three children, Jocelyn, Gianna and Camden.  Bill is preceded in death by his precious great granddaughter, Ellabeth Marie Luttrell.

Bill was a man of unwavering faith to his Lord Jesus Christ and missed the loved ones who went before him, knowing full well he would be reunited. He served the Lord through teaching Sunday School, serving as a Deacon and loved singing in choirs of churches past. Bill and Sandy have especially loved their church family at The Kirk of the Hills.  Bill savored classical music and going to the symphony, gardening, traveling and dancing with his bride and relished in family vacations… especially those that included sailing or being on the water. He also loved shooting as a shared passion with his father, children and grandchildren, playing golf and watching football… college or pro, but especially his alma mater. Bill was loyal and devoted to his close friends and will be missed by all who knew him.  He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom and encouraging words.  His greatest legacy is the unwavering and unconditional love shown in his devoted marriage to Sandy that has inspired generations. Bill's favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 6th at 11am at The Kirk of the Hills officiated by Rev.
