Obituary

William Frederick "Bill" Hobbs Jr., 79, of Wildwood, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, Missouri, surrounded by his family.

William was born on July 7, 1947, in Lynwood, California, son of William Sr. and Delores Hobbs. He moved to Missouri and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1965, where he starred on the undefeated 1964 St. Charles Pirates football team (no Pirates team has been undefeated since!).

In 1966, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving four years before separating in 1970. He later received a commission in the United States Army, where he rose to the rank of Major before retiring from military service in 1991.

Bill married Janet Elizabeth Greathouse on December 12, 1986, at the Jewel Box in Forest Park in St. Louis. They spent all but two years of their married life living in the St. Louis area.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; his son, Eric, and daughter-in-law, Katelyn; his daughter, Kristi; his cherished grandchildren, Lucas and Layla; and his niece, Michele, daughter of his late brother, Richard.
