William "Bill" Michael Boland, age 79 passed away on August 24, 2026. Bill was born in St. Louis, on June 17, 1947 to the late Lloyd and Helen Welsh Boland. He lived a life marked by creativity, kindness, and an unmistakable joy for life.
A graduate of Washington University School of Architecture, he was employed at R.L. Boland, Inc. and ACI Boland Architects, where he shared his talents and creativity through a career dedicated to architecture and design. Some of his projects included Barnes Jewish Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, Desloge Building A, Maryville Centre and Big Cat Country at the St. Louis Zoo.
But while architecture was his profession, music was one of his greatest lifelong loves.
He loved singing, from his early years participating as a youth in St. Louis Boy Choristers and Cosmopolitan Singers, sharing his descanter range in concert. A 1965 graduate of Southwest High School, he played guitar and sang in the Avanti' s Band and starred in a school musical.
He was always finding new ways to create and share music. His love of music was woven into the fabric of his life and brought joy not only to him, but to those around him.
After joining Manchester United Methodist Church in the spring of 1981, he cofounded Coventry Choir. A member of Chancel Choir, and Vesper Bell Choir, his retirement from commercial architecture led to a church staff position in the Chapel. There, he founded the Woods Mill Ensemble coordinating and arranging their music for 8 years; leading and sharing his ability to sing, play piano, guitar, synthesizer, accordion and ukulele.
Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sherry Peaslee Boland; brother Robert L. Boland; his daughters, Rebecca Lynn Boland and his granddaughter - Tyler Elizabeth Hoeken, and Patricia Ann Boland; stepfather of Christopher James (Elizabeth) - Hannah Clare and Leah Nicole Peaslee; Andrew Treon (Sherry) - Addison Lynn and Charles Andrew Peaslee; Caroline Frances – Reid Cameron and Cami Katelyn Sewell; and extended family and dear friends who will cherish the memories they made with him.
Though Bill's voice may now be quiet, the music he loved and the joy he shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. His life was a beautiful composition of creativity, love, laughter and an enduring appreciation for the gift of simply being alive.
A Celebration of Bill's life will be held at Manchester United Methodist Church,129 Woods Mill Road, Manchester MO, 63021 on Saturday, October 24,10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Interment private. All are welcome in the Fellowship Hall after the service for a light lunch. In lieu of flowers, contribution can be made in honor of Bill Boland to the American Cancer Society , or by listening to a favorite song, making some music, or simply finding a little more joy in the world around them – as Bill so often did.
