Robert Cyril
Weissert
Jan 15, 1930 — Mar 7, 2023
Bridgeton
Weissert, Robert Cyril, age 93, was baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 surrounded by family. Bob was a lifelong educator and learner. He loved teaching his high school "kids" and began his career as Brother Bob in the Marianist Order teaching math, science, and band. After leaving the Brothers, he found his home at Parkway West High, where he taught math and computer science for 30+ years.
Bob was a voracious reader (of non-fiction only!) who delighted in learning and sharing his knowledge and book finds. He loved music throughout his life, encouraging his children and grandson Nathan in their musical pursuits over the years. He and his wife Joan also enjoyed regular dates to the St. Louis Symphony. Bob and Joan traveled extensively with their children across the United States and, after retiring, with each other to destinations nationally and abroad.
Growing up on the family farm instilled in Bob a love of gardening, home projects, and being outdoors that he never outgrew. He maintained a large vegetable garden for many years, enjoyed planting flowers in the Weissert yard every year, and nurtured far too many houseplants to count. He always had some home project he was working on, and another on the horizon. With his girls and with his friends, he spent hours cycling to places near and far.
Bob was always eager to help others. Whether he was working with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, reading textbooks aloud for Talking Books, or helping with programs and projects at church, Bob found his purpose in serving others. When Bob and Joan moved into assisted living at The Sarah Community in 2016, they decided together it was their "mission" to bring joy to the people around them. Bob continued this mission after Joan's death in 2020 and up until the very end of his life, investing in those around him in ways large and small.
He leaves behind many friends and loved ones who are better for having known and been cared for by him.
Bob was the dear father of Christie (Jonathan) Hart and Laura (Scott) Tacke; loving grandfather of Nathan Hart and Lilli Tacke; dear brother of Lester Weissert. He was preceded in death by Joan (nee Burkhart), his beloved wife of 50 years, and by his parents Clyde and Eleanor (nee Schwaegel) Weissert and siblings Marian Weissert, Teresa Weissert, Alvin Weissert, and Esther Reardon.
